Website accessibility statement

We are committed to complying with the Disability Discrimination Act and have made significant improvements to our website in order to reduce the barriers experienced by people with disabilities.

In accordance with central government guidelines we aim to create pages that comply with the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 to "AA" standard.

However, we may occasionally make mistakes. If you find that you can not use any of our pages, please contact the Web Team and to let us know. We will make every reasonable effort to either remove the barrier or provide the information in a format that you find acceptable.

Known accessibility problems

Parking permits online

Some form fields, such as text boxes, do not have text labels as required by the W3C guidelines. This may cause difficulties for users of screen readers. We have reported this problem to the supplier of the system.

Planning Explorer

Our online planning search system does not comply with the "AA" accessibility standard. In particular:

  • The use of a mouse is necessary to specify a point on the map when using the maps feature for site plans
  • Javascript must be enabled to use the maps.
  • Currently we make extensive use of colour to highlight areas on the map. We plan to supplement this with the use of patterns.

It is widely recognised that there are no truly accessible mapping web interfaces in the mainstream marketplace.

If you have problems accessing data only available using our Planning Explorer you can request it in a more suitable format by emailing us at planning@merton.gov.uk
