Councillor Stephen Alambritis, Leader of the Council

In May 2010 Stephen Alambritis was elected as Leader of the Council at the London Borough of Merton and re-elected again to that position in May 2014 for another four year term. Stephen was first elected as a councillor in 2003 and was quickly promoted to the Cabinet the following year. By 2007 Stephen was Leader of the Opposition.

Stephen is also a member on the Board of the London Pensions Fund Authority and Chairman of the South London Partnership - a grouping of South London Boroughs. In addition Stephen is Deputy Chairman of Capital Ambition and is on the Audit Committee of London Councils.

Stephen was formerly Head of Public Affairs at the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).He is now a member of the FSB having set up his own successful small business in the property sector.

Stephen has been a member of the Better Regulation Task Force at the Cabinet Office and a Commissioner at both the Disability Rights Commission (DRC) and at the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).

Stephen is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (FCIPR) and is a Lord’s Taverner helping to give young people a ‘sporting chance’

Stephen has three degrees namely: BA Hons (Government); MSc (Econ); MA (Business Law).

Stephen is a Football Association referee and enjoys real ale and is a member of CAMRA.
