We offer a wide range of courses for adults across Merton in partnership with our specialist training providers South Thames College and Groundwork London.

    These courses are delivered by South Thames College at their Merton campus and in community venues across Merton.

    Employability and family learning services

    Working with Groundwork London, we provide a range of community based family learning and employability courses in accessible venues across Merton throughout the year.

    Our family learning courses for parents and carers cover a range of topics including healthy eating, growing, jam making, local history, confidence building, energy saving in the home and more. Our “Keeping up with the kids” course is designed to help parents and carers understand what their children are learning in English, Maths and ICT and improve their skills to enable them to help their children.

    Our employability skills training is designed to help those who want to gain employment, boost their confidence or improve their career prospects. The programme is delivered in six, three hour sessions typically spread over six weeks. Courses include training and support in finding job vacancies, writing job applications and CVs, preparing for interviews and accessing work experience.

    Courses will be delivered from September 2016 in various venues across Merton.

    Towards Independence - Courses for learners with learning difficulties and /or disabilities

    Merton Council delivers a wide range of courses for adult learners with learning difficulties and disabilities (LLDD) in venues within Merton.

    We currently provide courses in meal preparation, life skills, moving towards independence, arts and crafts, IT for the visually impaired, lip reading, personal safety, photography, designing a room, dance, looking after yourself, and more.

    Courses are currently held at three venues: Merton Vision at the Guardian Centre, Colliers Wood, Pollards Hill Library and High Path Day Centre, with others planned for September 2017. All venues offer a safe environment with good transport links and safe drop-off points.

    Our Towards Independence courses are offered to learners on an individual basis, following an assessment process.

    2017-2018 Courses

    Our new course offer starting September 2017 has the following range of vocational, craft and wellbeing courses available. Learners will have the opportunity to take part in activities that will help them build their work skills, enhance their ability to live independently, and be more confident.

    Courses are either morning (10am – 12noon) or afternoon (1pm – 3pm). Venues include Pollards Hill Library, The JMC Day Centre, Wimbledon YMCA, and Tooting and Mitcham Football Club.
