Liability for a bill

If you believe that you should not be the person who has to pay the tax, please look at Who has to pay council tax for more information about who should be liable to pay the council tax bill. If you still disagree with our decision to bill you, contact us immediately, in writing and tell us why you should not be liable to pay the council tax

Refusal to grant an exemption or discount

If we refuse to allow your home to be exempt or to give you a discount or you think the discount should be more, please look at Discounts and exemptions for more information about how discounts and exemptions are worked out. If you still disagree with our decision contact us immediately, in writing and tell us why you disagree.

Completion notices

If you disagree with the date that we think your home is ready to live in (if a newly built home), please look at New and altered properties for more information about how the completion date of a newly built property is decided. If you still disagree with our decision contact us immediately, in writing and tell us why you disagree.

Valuation band

In certain circumstances you can challenge the valuation band on your property.

What to do if your appeal is not agreed

If we do not solve your problem or the Valuation Office does not agree with your appeal, you can appeal to the Valuation Tribunal. Please see the Valuation Tribunal website for more information on further appeals.

If you make an appeal you must continue to pay your bill until the appeal is settled.
