Children, Schools and Families Department

Director: Yvette Stanley

The divisions of the Children, Schools and Families Department are:

  • Children’s Social Care and Youth Inclusion
  • Education
  • Commissioning, Strategy and Performance.

The Children, Schools and Families Department aims to improve the life chances and choices of all local children and young people. We do this by making sure that they get a good start in life, receive the good or better services they need to live safe, healthy and happy lives. We also help them to reach their potential at school and give them opportunities to enjoy and achieve, and to participate in their communities and neighbourhoods. Where children need safeguarding we take swift action to keep them safe, wherever possible with their families, but where necessary with permanent carers or adoptive parents.

The Children, Schools and Families Department works to Merton's Children and Young People's Plan. This sets out the priorities and work plans for improving health outcomes, maintaining robust safeguarding, improving educational outcomes, promoting opportunities for positive contribution, and promoting economic wellbeing for children and young people
