Children missing from education

A child must attend school from the term after they are 5 years old, to the last Friday in June in the academic year that they are 16 years old.

The principal role of Merton's Education Welfare Service is to promote and enforce regular and punctual school attendance. Our role is to support schools, parents and students to ensure that a child of compulsory school age has access to education and attends school regularly and punctually, or receives a suitable education other than at school.

If you have a concern about your child’s attendance you should speak to the school in the first instance.
