Controlled parking zone changes and consultations

We carry out public consultations from time to time, to seek your views on proposed changes to controlled parking zones (CPZs) in Merton.

For more information about how the consultation process works, see Parking Consultations.

New CPZs

We have an extensive programme of areas to be considered for a possible introduction of a controlled parking zone (CPZ).

We will consider introducing CPZs in areas suffering from parking congestion to help reduce traffic, make it easier for local people to park and to make our streets cleaner, safer and more accessible for all.

Areas suffering from parking congestions are mainly located around stations and shopping centres. Prior to the implementation of a CPZ, an extensive consultation process with the local residents, businesses and local Councillors is carried out. The CPZ consultation process, regarding the possible introduction of CPZs in Merton, has to be prioritised.

Priority is given to areas suffering parking problems usually created by commuters driving to a station to use the train or tram to complete their journey. The commuter parking takes place in residential areas making it impossible for the local residents and their visitors to park anywhere near their homes. In Merton requests for a CPZ have to be supported by petitions and individual requests received by the Parking Section from your local Ward Councillors.
